Class 1 (Year 1)
Welcome to Class 1
The teaching team this year is Mr Owen supported by Mrs Rees, Miss Charity and Ms Head. Mrs Champlin will be covering PPA on a Wednesday afternoon. For the first part of the Autumn term, the class will be taught by Mrs Sheldon,
This school year is when we see our children become more independent and responsible for their learning, taking on more challenges and pushing themselves to achieve great things as they start their journey learning through the National Curriculum. They will extend their learning from their year in EYFS and each lesson will stretch and challenge each child in order to ignite their love of learning and meet their potential. This year we will be embarking on a number of ‘Learning Adventures’ that we hope will inspire and engage our children to develop their curiosity and enthusiasm for gaining knowledge, skills and understanding.
Our expectations are for all children to take pride in the work that they produce and show how proud they are of their own personal achievements in all areas of school life. We also strive to generate a good home-school partnership and we will keep you up to date with some of the learning that is taking place in class using Class Dojo.
Please have a look at the ‘End Of Year Expectations’ leaflets attached below to see what skills and knowledge children should have acquired by the end of each year group.

Homework Menu & Homework Books
Each half term, children are given a new ‘Homework Menu’ from which they can select a specific number of activities to complete from the different areas of learning.
They can present their work in their homework book by either drawing/writing directly onto the paper or by sticking in printed sheets or photographs. Homework books should be returned to school during the last week of each half term.
There is a lot of choice on each menu and we really hope that pupils have fun working on their chosen projects!

Knowledge Organiser
A Knowledge Organiser is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learned by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.
We have developed our own Knowledge Organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each organiser also has a quiz to help children recall the knowledge and a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
