Class 7 (Year 5)
Welcome to Class 7
Class 7 teachers are Mrs Cotterill and Mr Caldwell and we are very fortunate to have the support of Miss Smith throughout the week. We are all very much looking forward to working with your child!
The children in Class 7 are now in Upper Key Stage 2 and the increased expectations reflect this. In a supportive and caring environment, the children are challenged to continue to build on their learning skills in order to achieve their potential through our exciting creative curriculum. Each child is encouraged to ‘have a go’ even if they are not sure - we believe that practice really does make perfect.
While appreciating that we are all unique and have different qualities and talents, we believe that by working together we can also help each other develop our character muscles on order to become responsible, resilient, respectful young people.
Please have a look at the ‘End Of Year Expectations’ leaflet attached to see the skills and knowledge children should have acquired by the end of Year 5.

Homework Menu & Homework Books
Each half term, children are given a new ‘Homework Menu’ from which they can select a specific number of activities to complete from the different areas of learning.
They can present their work in their homework book by either drawing/writing directly onto the paper or by sticking in printed sheets or photographs. Homework books should be returned to school during the last week of each half term.
There is a lot of choice on each menu and we really hope that pupils have fun working on their chosen projects!

Knowledge Organiser
A Knowledge Organiser is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learned by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.
We have developed our own Knowledge Organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each organiser also has a quiz to help children recall the knowledge and a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
