Welcome to Class 5
Welcome to Class 5. The teaching team this year is Mrs Wood (Class Teacher) who is ably assisted by Mrs Cooper (Teaching Assistant), Mrs Marcer (Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Hamlet (beginning teacher). We are all very much looking forward to working with your child.

It is very important to us that your child loves learning and coming to school. Over the next year, we will use a creative curriculum to take the children on learning adventures. We strive to provide exciting experiences through lesson hooks and visitors, thought-provoking lessons and a co-operative environment. We will support your child in becoming resilient, independent and confident. We love to take on a challenge in Class 5 and encourage children to use their growth mindset to power through it. We believe mistakes are proof of trying and we encourage this positive thinking in our classroom.

We cannot wait to work hard, have fun and get to know each other. With help from you at home, we know this year is going to be an absolutely amazing one!

Year 3 can look a little different from year 2, however, we still have high expectations for behaviour and effort to make learning possible and the best it can be. Please have a look at the ‘End Of Year Expectations’ leaflets attached below to see what skills and knowledge children should have acquired by the end of year 3.

What Are Class 5 Learning About This Year?

Termly Overview

Homework Menu & Homework Books
Each half term, children are given a new ‘Homework Menu’ from which they can select a specific number of activities to complete from the different areas of learning.

They can present their work in their homework book by either drawing/writing directly onto the paper or by sticking in printed sheets or photographs. Homework books should be returned to school during the last week of each half term.

There is a lot of choice on each menu and we really hope that pupils have fun working on their chosen projects!

Knowledge Organiser
A Knowledge Organiser is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learned by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.

We have developed our own Knowledge Organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each organiser also has a quiz to help children recall the knowledge and a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
