Welcome to Class 1

We’re delighted to introduce our Year 1 teaching team. This year, your child will be taught by Miss Kucharska (Miss K), supported by our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Bowden and Mrs Tomlinson. Together, we are looking forward to supporting, encouraging and celebrating every child as they grow, learn and make progress.

Year 1 is all about building a smooth and nurturing transition from EYFS, while beginning the exciting journey through the National Curriculum. Our priority is to ensure that children feel happy, safe and inspired in their learning. Each lesson is designed to support and challenge children at just the right level, helping them to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity.

Throughout the year, our class will embark on a series of exciting ‘Learning Adventures’. These will give children opportunities to explore, question and discover across all subject areas, sparking their enthusiasm and love of learning. Along the way, they will build on the strong foundations developed in EYFS, developing the knowledge and skills they need to become confident and increasingly independent learners.

In Year 1, we encourage all children to take pride in their work and celebrate their achievements as they develop new skills and knowledge. We want every child to recognise their own progress and feel proud of what they can do. With hard work, lots of fun and strong partnerships between school and home, we are looking forward to a fantastic year together!

Homework Menu & Homework Books

Each half term, children are given a new ‘Homework Menu’ from which they can select a specific number of activities to complete from the different areas of learning.

They can present their work in their homework book by either drawing/writing directly onto the paper or by sticking in printed sheets or photographs. Homework books should be returned to school during the last week of each half term.

There is a lot of choice on each menu and we really hope that pupils have fun working on their chosen projects!

 

Knowledge Organiser

A Knowledge Organiser is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learnt by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.

We have developed our own Knowledge Organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each organiser also has a quiz to help children recall the knowledge and a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
