  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE)

The PSHE curriculum at Orchard is delivered both as a subject in its own right and through the creative curriculum and is intended to enable children to make informed choices about lifestyles they adopt. It includes activities to develop children’s self-esteem, their ability to relate to and collaborate with others, their awareness of bullying and its consequences and their ability to resolve differences. Health Education provides the context for teaching ways in which children can take greater responsibility for their own health and well-being, and includes elements of Sex and Relationships Education. Many aspects of PSHE are covered through the ethos of the whole school. Physical and mental well-being is emphasised within a range of topics which include e-safety, personal hygiene and dental care, medicines, smoking and other drugs.

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)

At our school, Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is taught through the carefully planned and progressive Kapow Primary RSHE scheme.

Lessons are designed to help children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to stay safe, healthy and prepared for life in modern Britain. Through age-appropriate learning, pupils explore topics including friendships, families, mental wellbeing, physical health, online safety, personal boundaries and respectful relationships.

Our RSHE curriculum reflects the latest statutory guidance for England, including the updated Department for Education requirements being introduced from September 2026, with an increased focus on safeguarding, online safety, communication skills, emotional wellbeing and helping children understand healthy and respectful relationships in an increasingly digital world.

We work closely with families to ensure RSHE is taught in a sensitive, inclusive and supportive way that reflects our school values and meets the needs of all pupils.
